The World's Top Content Marketing School

Phase 1: Certification

The first Phase of Kickstart is building the skills you’ll need to succeed in your new Content Marketing career. There are 3 skill sets: Content Writing, SEO Strategy, and Blog Editing. When you finish Phase 1, you’ll be certified in all three skill sets!

Let’s dig into each skill set in more detail, so you can see what you’ll be learning – and why.

Content Marketing Certification

Content marketing is online material in written, audio, video, or visual format that is a strategic marketing funnel designed to attract and connect customer prospects to online businesses (websites) through organic searches.

Knowing that customer prospects hang out on Google or other search engines looking for information, the goal of a content marketing writer is to strategically create written material (blog posts) that rank well in search engine results. Top rankings draw the most prospects, so it follows that a content marketing writer’s goal is to write to rank.

The Content Marketing Certification provides the background and guidance to learn and develop your strategic writer’s skill set. You’ll learn what it takes to write content that is capable of ranking high in Google’s search results:

  • An introduction to search engine optimization (SEO)
  • A deep dive into what types of content Google likes most (on-page SEO)
  • Extensive training on how to create your content, including headlines, openings, closings, and all other parts of a successful article

You earn your Content Marketing Certification by demonstrating your knowledge and practical application of these skills in the multi-part exam:

  • Write your first Ultimate Guide, combining everything you’ve learned into an article you’ll be able to showcase in your portfolio
  • Two additional exams that thoroughly tests your knowledge and skills

SEO Strategy Certification

Knowing how to create good content is only one piece of the puzzle. If you want to consistently publish content that ranks on the first page of Google — and get lots of traffic — you’ll have to be strategic about what content you create.

That’s where our SEO Strategy program comes in. SEO works by selecting a keyword (i.e. a phrase that someone types into Google) and trying to break onto the first page of Google for that keyword.

Without a strategy, you’re blindly publishing content on any keyword you feel like, hoping that you occasionally get lucky and one of them ranks. Without a strategy, you may put your heart and soul into producing the most fantastic piece of content that was ever published online and it may still get close to zero traffic.

Content marketing is a competitive field. You can find content on just about any keyword, and much of it is published on sites that have built trust and authority with Google over many years. Good writing alone isn’t enough to beat them anymore.

Having a clear SEO strategy means you can count on more return on investment, more traffic, more eyeballs on your content. You accomplish this by being selective about what keywords you write about, and being strategic about how you position your posts.

The SEO Strategy program will show you how to:

  • Get a treasure trove of relevant keywords you can build content around
  • Know which keywords your client or employer can actually rank for (so you avoid wasting time on ones that are too competitive)
  • Make sure your post gives readers exactly what they want
  • Develop a detailed content brief to give your post the best chance of breaking onto the first page of Google

You earn your SEO Certification by demonstrating your knowledge and practical application of these skills in the multi-part exam:

  • Complete a keyword analysis spreadsheet for a theoretical client or employer
  • Create a content brief for a single post, which details everything the post will need to be capable of ranking on page 1 of Google

Blog Editing Certification

If you want to level up your career in Content Marketing and become a Blog Editor, you will have to know how to manage a team of writers. This allows you to publish more content in a shorter timeframe than you could do on your own.

You will have to know how to communicate with writers and how to provide constructive feedback that turns their rough drafts into posts worth publishing.

You won’t find many programs that teach these skills. Kickstart breaks everything down in detail. This program is jam-packed with editing techniques, checklists, and email templates.

You will discover:

  • How to effectively manage and communicate with freelance writers
  • How to give useful guidance and feedback to writers that turn their rough first drafts into posts worth publishing
  • How to polish the rough edges of a post to provide a smoother reading experience and boost engagement
  • How to ensure that the final product follows your guidelines and meets all SEO requirements, so it has the best chance of ranking in Google
  • How to negotiate pay rates and set other terms vital to completing writing projects

Throughout this program, you will practice your new editing and communication skills through targeted assignments, which you’ll have to pass to earn your certification.
