- Are you going to make it impossible to complete the challenge?
No. As long as you attend your accountability check-in call and turn in three original articles of reasonable quality before the end of the challenge…
You’ll receive a portfolio website and get all your money back.
That means, as long as you put some effort into writing your articles… …and not just turn in some gibberish… we’ll happily give you a full refund and build you a website.
Again, the goal of this challenge is to encourage new writers to take action. Your articles don’t need to be perfect.
- Do I need any software or tools in order to complete the Portfolio Builder course?
The only software you’ll need is Google Docs, which is included with a free Google account.
If you already have a Gmail email address, you already have Google Docs (even if you’ve never used it). If you don’t, signing up takes only a minute.
The weekly Q&A calls and the post-challenge accountability call will take place over Zoom, but thanks to the Zoom web client, you shouldn’t need to have Zoom installed in order to attend — you simply need a web browser and decent Internet connection.
- What do you mean when you say the three posts to be written are "original"?
“Original” means the posts are unique to the Portfolio Builder challenge. They haven’t been written (published or unpublished) elsewhere, by you or someone else.
They are uniquely your work, unique to this challenge, and written after you joined the Portfolio Builder challenge and went through our lessons and material.
In other words:
If it’s something you’ve written sometime in the past, you can’t use it. And if it was written by someone else, you really can’t use it (that’s plagiarism… and cheating).
- Writing three articles sounds like a lot of work, how much time will it take?
There’s no word count limit on the articles.
(Though obviously, since you need to write articles of “reasonable quality” to be eligible for reimbursement, you shouldn’t submit anything that’s too short.)
You can complete the challenge easily with just 5-10 hours per week.
And if even that’s too difficult…
It means you’re probably not serious about becoming a writer.
- Do I need to be available at certain times in order to do this?
Not at all. Here’s how it works:
You can study the material in the course whenever it suits you. It’s available “on demand” and ready for you to review anytime.
Our live “Q&A calls” are at specific times, but we record each of them. If you have a question or would like feedback, you can submit it our coaches and see the answer by watching the replay.
- What if I don’t speak English as a first language, can I still join?
It depends.
This challenge is focused on writing in English and setting you up to work with English-speaking clients.
To do that, you don’t have to be a native English speaker, but you do need to write and speak professionally in English.
- Why do I have to pay to join, can’t I join it for free?
When people pay, they pay attention.
If we let everyone join for free, they won’t put the same level of effort.
Plus, our team will be doing the Q&A calls and accountability calls…
We only want people that are truly serious about starting their writing career with this challenge.
- If it’s free, what’s in it for you?
That’s a great question, and there’s a two-part answer:
One, we want to help people get started and take the first step in their writing careers.
And two, by tackling Portfolio Builder, which is the first phase of Freelance Accelerator…
By going through our training material and interacting with our coaches…
By making progress, seeing amazing results, and getting some quick wins…
We know that’ll likely make them want to complete the remaining phases of Freelance Accelerator.
